Green computing is hot Voxel has been slow to get on the bandwagon. The rest of the competition has clamored on.
What used to be about sensible business practices (saving money on power by being more efficient, reducing the amount of boxes that need to be unpacked and disposed) is now relabeled ‘green’ for maximum fun, spin potential, hype, and profit.
It’s high time we got on board and hyped it up like the best of them. Given a virtually unlimited budget, our best and brightest systems engineers have been hard at work, pushing the envelope of green computing. The results have been impressive.
Chris, one of our Senior Engineers, led the global team that has created the ultimate, most cost effective solution for both our customers and ourselves. It has both the build quality customers demand and the impact on waste that is required to ensure the planet’s survival. Ladies and Gentlemen, Voxel is proud to present the Corrugated Computing Chassis.
It is truly a win/win situation for all. We save landfills, and the product is readily available. In fact, since we can multi-source the chassis from multiple local vendors, we are able to move into a “just in time” provisioning model.
Our build process is simple. We go to a shoe store (preferably an upstanding local establishment) and demand (or pilfer) available corrugated consumable resources in bulk quantities. In some cases there are licensing issues due to branding. Our legal team is looking hard at this issue and is currently in talks with major manufacturers at “branded server” up-sell opportunities.
After stock has been obtained, we will proceed to drop-in-place components as needed. Following this, we then power on and boot into a burn-in environment. Unfortunately, due to the low quality of initial inventory, this environment has proved to be a little bit too literal. Our team has been looking at the issue and have recommended switching from a shoe box to a pizza box. The grease from the pie that previously occupied this box seems to act as a fire supresant. In addition, the pizza boxes fit perfectly within the standard 19″ racks that are found in Voxel datacenters.
Over the next 2 quarters, we will be dismantling a greater portion of our now outdated 1U and blade servers from legacy vendors such as HP and Dell, and replacing them with Voxel Pizzabox’s. Our servers will not only be made from fully recycled materials, but our datacenters will smell like pepperoni 24/7!
What other company can claim that?
And to answer the big question burning in everyone’s mind; yes, it can run Linux.
So everyone, please, think about the future. We’re thinking inside the box, paving the way, server by server, slice by slice.

It would be great if you share some pics of server running pz10
